This class is about the basics of yoga – suitable for total beginners or people returning to yoga. It is designed specifically to prepare you for a safe journey within your yoga practice. The class and its emphasis is on postural foundation and alignment of the body. It will help you to develop breath awareness and mind control, while stretching, flexing and strengthening your body… with a delicious deep peaceful relaxation.

Pilates is a form of exercise developed by Joseph Pilates, which emphasises the balanced development of the body through core strength, flexibility and awareness in order to support efficient, graceful movement.

Pilates is taught as mat based exercise. Core strength is the foundation of pilates exercise. The core muscles are the deep, internal muscles of the abdominal and back. When the core muscles are strong and doing their job, as they are trained to do in pilates, they work in tandem with the more superficial muscles of the trunk to support the spine and movement.

As you develop your core strength you develop stability throughout your entire torso. This is one of the ways pilates helps people overcome back pain. As the trunk is properly stabilized, pressure on the back is relieved and the body is able to move freely and efficiently.

Classes are inspired by the wonderful David Sye and his Yogabeats style. Movement in each posture is no longer restricted with the rigid form – but encouraged to be experimental and spontaneous – just like jazz or any other free form art. It is pure fun, driven by music and rhythms unapologetically sexy, empowering and provocative, leaving you higher than a kite and flying for the rest of the week.

And even more, the classes are designed to accommodate all levels of fitness and ability. Rather than holding fixed postures, a method of micro-movements is used. These are continuous movements which do not lock off the muscles or disrupt the blood flow and increase flexibility.

Funky Fun Yoga will engage all of your physical senses and provide a natural high and feeling of joy in the body. It will create tremendous vitality, balance and flexibility regardless of size, age or experience.

A deeply relaxed style of practice that utilizes a variety of props such as blankets, blocks and stops to allow the body to be supported as it opens itself to a deep level of stretching, relaxation and renewal. We work very hard in our lives and while we may sleep, we rarely take time to rest. Restorative yoga poses help us learn to relax and rest deeply and completely.

Restorative yoga provides healing for the body and the mind. It is especially useful when you need to eliminate fatigue and stress that results from your daily activities. It can also help you recover from illness and injury or overcome emotional depression and anxiety that are caused by traumatic events.

It is known that restorative yoga can activate the parasympathetic nervous system, which enables automatic control of the body. As such, the regular nervous system will be at rest, and the muscles will become more relaxed. Constant practice of restorative yoga will make your body less vulnerable to stress related illness and help you achieve optimal health.

This class is appropriate for all levels and can be very beneficial for those looking to bring balance to the stress of a busy lifestyle.

The benefits you experience are subtle, profound and life changing when meditating, you shift the effects of negative emotions, thoughts and experiences. You begin to notice that you are no longer feeling as stressed or anxious – and stress is responsible for so many health issues. Meditation is know to help with both physical and mental pain. When practiced regularly it helps people access inner joy, compassion and love.

To come…

This class is for pregnant ladies (14 weeks or more). The age old practice of yoga will keep you limber, tones your muscles and improves your balance and circulation, with little, if any impact on your joints.

Yoga is also beneficial because it helps you learn to breathe deeply and relax, which will come in handy as you face the physical demand of labour, birth and motherhood. In fact, one of the first things you will learn is how to breathe fully. This prepares you for labor and childbirth by training you to stay calm when you need it most. When you are in pain or afraid, your body produces adrenalin and may produce less oxytocin, a hormone that makes labor progress. A regular yoga practice will help you fight the urge to tighten up when you feel pain, and show you how to relax instead.

“Taking a prenatal yoga class is a great way to meet other pregnant women – and become part of a community”
